Penny S. Avila Born: October 7, 1969 in Freeport, IL Died: August 20, 2024 in Sterling, IL STERLING – Penny S. Avila, age 54, died Tuesday, August 20, 2024 at CGH Medical Center, Sterling. Penny was born on October 7, 1969 in Freeport the daughter of Robert and Patricia (Veer) Mashaw. She married Thomas Avila on August 12, 1993 in Sterling. Penny worked helping in elderly care for the past 20 years, most recently as Activities Director for Dixon Rehabilitation and Healthcare Center/Tutera of Dixon. She loved her family and will be missed by all. Survivors include her husband, Thomas Avila of Sterling; three sons, Tommy Avila III, Isaac Avila of Freeport and Jamie Avila of Sterling; four sisters, Mary Mashaw, Julie (Raymond) Miller, Debbie (Matt) Jones, Michelle Mashaw all of Freeport; two brothers, Brian and Eric Mashaw of Freeport; fifteen grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; one son Anthony Avila. Visitation will be held from 11:00 AM – 1:00 PM Saturday, August 2
